A 2027 governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Mascot Uzor Kalu, has pledged to concede if he loses the ticket and to support the winner.
Kalu gave the assurance while speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend on the sidelines of a stakeholders’ meeting of the state chapter of the APC in Umuahia, the state capital.
He said in the same vein, he would expect his opponents to support and cooperate with him if he wins the ticket to ensure that the party wins the election.
According to the younger brother of a former governor of the state, Sen Orji Uzor Kalu, this is the best approach for the APC towards winning the election.
The aspirant emphasised that his aspiration was his private and individual affair and should not be seen as a proxy of any individual or group of persons. Ahead of preparations for the election, he stressed the need for members of the chapter to eschew bitterness, rancour and unite for the common goal of the party.
Kanu, who ran for the office on the platform of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in the last election, lauded the chairman of the APC in the state and members of his executive for their leadership qualities.
Speaking about the 2023 election, he noted that before he left the APC to join the APP, he had made it clear to his supporters that he would return, regardless of the outcome.
He added that since his return in 2023, he had been working hard with other stakeholders to strengthen the APC and position it to win the election at all levels in the state.
Kalu served briefly as the chief of staff to former governor of the state, Sen Theodore Orji, who had served his elder brother in the same capacity from 1999 to 2007.
