The Presidency has taken a swipe at the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, over his appeal to the United States President Donald Trump and other Western nations to intervene in Nigeria’s political crisis.
Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, who shared the clip on his X handle on Tuesday, described Turaki’s statement as a treasonable for allegedly calling for foreign invasion.
“We shall never forget this video: the day a Nigerian politician committed high treason for calling for a foreign invasion of Nigeria, all because of intra-party dispute,” Onanuga wrote.
The video captured Turaki addressing journalists in Abuja during a leadership dispute at the PDP national secretariat.
In the clip, Turaki claimed that Nigeria’s democracy was under threat and called on the US president and other advanced democracies to “save Nigeria.”
“I want to call on President Trump. What is at stake is not just genocide against Christians; he should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat. I am calling all other developed nations, all advanced democracies, come and save Nigeria,” he said.
